Bar Band: Rock Band At A Bar!

rock band barFolks, if there’s one thing that’s awesome, it’s being a rock star.

Of course most of us are no-talent hacks who couldn’t shred their way out of a paper bag. Thank god for make-believe! I’m referring, of course, to Guitar Hero and more recently Rock Band.

And while rocking out with your loser friends is fun and all, there’s only one thing better: rocking out in front of losers you don’t know.

Well, you’re in luck! There just so happens to be a wonderful little bar in Silverlake that has Rock Band!

Rad!

All joking aside, it’s an awesome experience on several different levels. Anyone can make an ass out of themselves at karaoke. We need a new way to humiliate ourselves, and it’s name is Rock Band. You get to play either guitar, bass, drums or vocals. And what better place is there to do it than at a bar? I’ll tell you where: nowhere.

The Hyperion Avenue Lounge is an awesome little bar. And when I say little, I mean little, as you can tell.

But that’s an awesome thing! After all, the beauty of this bar is that you don’t have to worry about 800 people getting all up in your shit.

Personally, I was surprised by how friendly everyone was. From the bartender /game master to the other attendees. They’d be asking for people to come fill in X position on the stage, people would step up, get cheered… It really felt like a nice crowd. Nerdy, but nice. And that’s ultimately the perfect target audience, isn’t it?

Yeah. Silverlake. $4 beer. And non-alcoholic drinks are only $2.

Things maybe get a little crowded after 11PM, so if you really want to get your game on, get there a little early, although since they only do this Wednesday nights from 10PM to closing, most of you suckers have to work the next day, anyway.

Oh, and word to the wise: make sure to pick songs you actually know the lyrics to if you’re on vocals. The words are completely illegible, and no amount of good-will or support from the audience will help you through if you don’t truly know the words. Trust me.
