Concert On-Sales: Beck, Matisyahu, Smashing Pumpkins and more
By Brian Spiegel
While last weekends on sale list was about as interesting as Ben Stein on quaaludes, there are some pretty decent shows hitting the market this weekend. So, ummm, while we still actually have valuable currency in this country why not spend some of it to see one of the great concerts going on sale? After spending most of today trying to get your money out of WaMu and hoarding it under your mattress, how about logging on to Ticketmaster and buying a few concert tickets to help out the economy. It’s the all-American thing to do (well, that and blaming the Democrats).
-So there is a new concert venue opening up in downtown L.A. in November. Club Nokia, which is the hipper, more adventurous brother to the Nokia Theater, is opening up with a full slate of just announced shows. First up at the venue is Mr. Beck Hansen, otherwise simply known as Beck, who will open the club on November 10th. Tickets for this show go on sale Saturday at 10am and will set you back $42-$72.
Other highlights from the just announced schedule at Club Nokia:
- Lupe Fiasco, November 12th, on sale Saturday at 11am, $32.
- Taking Back Sunday, The (International) Noise Conspiracy, 3Oh!3, November 13th, on sale Saturday at noon, prices TBA.
- The B-52′s, November 16th, on sale Saturday at noon, $42-$72.
- Matisyahu, The Flobots, Chester French, November 18th, on sale Saturday at 11am, $22.
- Usher, November 19th, on sale Saturday at 10am, $87-$127.
- Sarah Silverman (and friends), two shows on November 21st, on sale Saturday at noon, $46.
There are a few other onsales for the venue that you can check out at www.goldenvoice.com. The venue looks like it’s pulling bands that would usually play the WIltern, so it will be interesting to see if both venues can exist just miles from each other. Stay tuned…
-In pretentious artist news: Billy Corgan’s kinda reunited (two out of four ain’t bad, I guess) The Smashing Pumpkins will celebrate their 20th year as a band (if you don’t could the five years they were broken up) with two shows at the Gibson Amphitheater on December 2nd and 3rd. Each night will feature a different set list and plenty of Billy Corgan being full of himself (though hearing some old songs from “Melon Coley” would be nice).
-Since their first show at the Forum sold out like this (I just snapped my fingers… I guess the effect doesn’t work that well in print), AC/DC has added a second show at the venue on December 8th. Tickets are $91 and are on sale now.
-Just in time for the Jewish New Year (hooray for fasting!) Matisyahu has just announced a show at the Grove of Anaheim with the band who can ride their bikes with no handlebars (that song still rules, by the way), The Flobots opening, on November 20th. Tickets are $27 and are on sale now.
-Also playing the Grove: personal mortal enemies Hinder headlining the venue November 2nd with Trapt and Revolution Mother supporting. Tickets are on sale now and will set you back $25 (not including the price of your soul and dignity).
-The always intriguing Lucinda Williams will headlining the Wiltern on November 21st with Buick 6 opening. Ticket prices are TBA and go on sale today.
