Argh, I think I’m losing hope in America.

As the public spends most of it’s time fighting over McCain vs Obama, something sinister is about to be unleashed on the American public: “Beverly Hills Chihuahua”. Beverly Hills- freakin’ Chihuahua.

Argh, here’s your music news…

OBAMA ROCKS… WITH INDIE BANDS

Though my Republic friends (I grew up in Orange County, yo) repeatedly tell me that Barack Obama doesn’t have enough foreign policy experience (doesn’t live close enough to Russia), and doesn’t have any military experience (stupid lack of wars, thank you very much Warren Christopher), my friends seem to be missing one thing: Barack Obama sure attracts some awesome indie bands. And man, his mix-tapes must be way cooler than McCain’s (unless your into country and ABBA).

While LA never gets the cool Obama concerts (what did we get? Fucking Barbara Streisand), Portland got The Decemberists, Ohio got the Arcade Fire (multiple times), and in a just announced fundraiser, New York City has Les Savy Fav, Andrew Bird, the Fiery Furnaces and rumored special guests Franz Ferdinand playing the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York on October 7th (book your flights now!). Seriously what is up with New York getting all the cool shows lately?

SPRINGSTEEN TO ROCK THE SUPER BOWL HALF-TIME SHOW

In the Super Bowl’s continuing attempt to book half-time entertainment who wouldn’t (or couldn’t) bear their breasts, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have been taped to perform during the halftime show of the 2009 Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida.

Springsteen will take the stage for a 15 minute or so set during the halftime of this January’s game (which will hopefully feature the Chargers leading the NFC team 21-10), playing a set full of his hits. In the past few years the halftime show has featured such artists as Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers played the 2008 game with 148 million viewers tuning in.

If your keeping score at home, Springsteen doesn’t have breasts, which has to make NBC (who is broadcasting next years Super Bowl) happy as who can forget when Janet Jackson bared her nipple in 2004 causing the FCC to go all ape shit and make life a living hell for anyone who wanted to do anything edgy on TV. Well, unless you want to kill someone on TV, that’s still acceptable. Boobies, though, are evil.

Now if Bruce ends up showing his package on TV then the FCC might just go ahead and cancel television for good.

OASIS TOURING THE STATES

Hopefully the states will show Noel Gallagher of Oasis a little more hospitality then the Canadians did earlier this month. As you may remember, Noel was attacked onstage in Toronto in the midst of a recent Candian/ Eastern US tour. Noel broke a rib and the band ended up canceling many of the remaining shows on the tour. With his rib healed, the band has announced an full tour of the states with support from Ryan Adams and the Cardinals which begins December 3rd in Oakland. Oasis will be promoting the new album “Dig Out Your Soul” which is due on October 7th, while Ryan Adam’s new album “Cadinology” on October 28th.

The tour plays the Staples Center on December 4th.

PHISH REUNITED

Hey, you, right there, reading this. Are you a Phish fan? No? Oh, well, can you ask the person in the cubicle next to you? He is, cool, could you let him know about this?

In what equates to the Beatles getting together and playing Shea Stadium for rock fans, millions of jam band fans are rejoicing that Phish is reuniting for a three-night run at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA on March 6-8. This will be the first time in four years that all four members of the band have reunited for a full show. Previously three of the four members collaborated on stage at the Rothbury Festival in Michigan over the 4th of July weekend. The band fully reunited for a short set earlier this summer during the wedding of their former road manager.

THURSDAY SIGNS WITH EPITAPH

How about some Thursday news on a Wednesday? Veteran rock/ punk outfit Thursday has signed a deal with Epitaph Records, which will release the bands fifth album sometime in Spring 2009. The band previously released the bands latest album “A City by the Light Divided” in 2006 with former (crazy, psycho) label Victory Records titled “Kill the House Lights”.

This is Epitaph’s third recent signing of a former major label act, which has recently signed both Story of the Year and New Found Glory to their label.
