Top 5: Let’s Get Political

Top 5 is back for its second week!  For those of you just tuning in, the game goes like this: a Top 5 topic is selected and then, according to the theme, 5 songs, albums or artists are picked based on how well they fit within the confines of the subject.  If you think there is a song, album or artist missing, let us know! If you have a great idea for a “Top 5,” we’d love to hear about it.  So, for tonight, let’s get political!

As the quasi-retarded Palin is set to debate the sadly forgettable Biden, the political spirit is fresh in the air. Below is a list of the top 5 political songs from the last 20 years.  While many of the best songs that inspired or were inspired by political, and/or social change were from 60′s and 70′s, it seems appropriate, in a post 9/11 world, to keep it contemporary.

This week’s “Top 5″ contains artists from different genres whose songs reflect the tumultuously political world in which we are presently living.  Each of these songs should be added to both party’s iPod in the hopes that maybe, just maybe, they would be inspired to be more passionately political and less politically savvy.  While the likelihood that either party has Rage or Difranco in their iPod catalog is, well, completely unlikely, a boy can hope…right? Here is tonight’s “Top 5:” political songs, and yes, Ani Difranco is on here twice because, really, she could dominate the whole list, but we’ve got to be fair, don’t we?
