Wow, did we anger the concert gods or something? Or maybe we are just getting into that time period where all the good fall tours have been announced and the late winter/ early spring tours are just too far away. Regardless of the reason, without going all music snob on you, this weeks crop of LA on sales are weak.  Sure, there are a few highlights like Autolux (featured) at the Henry Fonda on January 17th ($20, on sale Saturday at 10am) and Tom Morello at the House of Blues- Anaheim on December 12th (on sale Saturday at 10am), but for the most part your going to be stuck with a big case of 80′s and 90′s artists trying to fill up medium sized rooms.

  • Example #1: The Backstreet Boys have just announced a show at the brand spanking new Hollywood Palladium on November 23rd (good reviews on the renovated club for the debut Jay-Zshow; I’ll let you know personally when i check out Alkaline Trio in a few weeks). Tickets for this show go on sale Saturday at noon.
  • Example #2: If you didn’t get a chance to see Motley Crue headline their own festival this summer, you now have a chance to catch the cockroach like band (let’s face it, if they have survived all this not even thermo-nuclear radiation could take them out) play the Hollywood Palladium on November 14th. Tickets go on sale Saturday and prices will be determined following a trip to see Dr. Feelgood.
  • Example #3: If you would have told me “Hey Brian, Keith Sweat still has enough fans to play the Gibson Amphitheater” I would have looked at you quizically like a dog who has just been showed a card trick (stole that from Bill Hicks). Maybe it’s that strange staying power that these 90′s R&B artists seem to have, but Mr. Sweat will bring his “Sweat Hotel” (that sounds so wrong) to the 6,000 seat amphitheater on December 20th with other 90′s mainstays such as Guy and Tony! Toni! Tone! in toe. Seriously? That show is actually happening? Like people are planning to spend money to see that? Wow. Tickets are $35-$90 and go on sale Monday, October 20th at 1pm.
  • Example #4: Styx is playing the House of Blues- Anaheim on Feb 13th (seems a bit small for them actually). So is Tesla on December 6th. Both oldies, both still around. Tickets are on sale for both of those shows right now.
  • Example #5: The Vandals annual Christmas Formal on December 20th at  the House of Blues- Anaheim with The Aggrolites opening. I’ve been to this before, kinda a fun event Tickets are on sale now.

In the oldie but still kinda goodie,Mercury Revplays the El Rey Theater with Imaad Wasif opening on December 16th. Tickets are $25 and are on sale now.
