Members of Nickel Creek and Switchfoot Form Fiction Family
By KevinWith Nickel Creek calling it quits at the end of 2007, guitarist, singer and songwriter Sean Watkins found time to tackle a bunch of new projects. One of these projects is an album with his friend Jon Foreman, who just happens to be the frontman of Switchfoot. The two met when Nickel Creek and Switchfoot shared a bill a few years back.
The duo originally called themselves The Real SeanJon before adopting the name Fiction Family. They will release their self-titled album via ATO Records on January 20. The album was originally slated to be an EP, but the duo kept adding songs until they had the 12 songs that now make up the album. Sean’s sister and Nickel Creek bandmate Sara Watkins lent her talents to a few tracks.
The album was recorded with a few “cowboy” rules:
- No double tracking
- No pussyfooting
- No tuning of vocals
The guys recorded the album at their homes, sometimes passing tracks back a forth while each member was on tour with their bands. The band is in the process of lining up a tour for early 2009.
