Know Your LA Bands: THE YELLING Interview
BeatCrave brings you band, THE YELLING, as part of our Know Your LA Bands series. Although the band may be new around the area, THE YELLING certainly has a sound that most music fans have been missing. They bring the raw grittiness of Led Zeppelin back to the modern era combining it with a similar mystique of Jack White. Their sound creates a feeling of the unpredictable and is nothing less than a storm of authority. However, what is most interesting about the North Hollywood-based band is that they also seem to be experts at combining just the right amount of the blues with the authenticity our eardrums have been craving all this time.
Their self-titled EP is available on iTunes on iTunes and Amazon but get this: It’s only $4.95! It’s somewhat unbelievable for a band with this much potential because their sound is definitely worth much more. If you’re interested in seeing them live, you’ve got some luck on your side. THE YELLING will be playing at The Roxy this Thursday on October 30th along with White Lies and Japanese Motors. The show starts at 7:30pm so make sure to get there early because here’s another surprise for you: It’s FREE!
It’s only be a matter of time before The Yelling becomes an LA favorite, so make sure you get the first taste. Until then, check out BeatCrave’s exclusive interview with the band below!
Are all of you currently from the North Hollywood area?
Yes, we all live and work around here.
With some of you being from Illinois, what made you pursue the LA music scene instead of the Chicago scene?
We knew more people in LA and had more resources. That definitely helped in the transition to a bigger city.
What has been your favorite aspect of the LA music scene so far?
Other bands, musicians. It’s a pretty eclectic mix out here. Also, the clubs have been really cool with us.
You’ve been compared to Led Zeppelin. How do you feel about this?
We take it as a compliment. We think they are one of the greater rock bands of all time.
You recently released your EP. What did you learn through the process of recording it?
We learned that we can actually do it on our own. For our next album, we’d like to collaborate with a producer, but feel that the experience of doing it ourselves was instrumental in the growth of the band.
Dead or alive: Which 5 musical acts you would have play with you at a festival.
Robert Johnson, The Beatles, Talking Heads, Sex Pistols, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s
What is it that you guys are doing to make yourselves stand out in the sea of LA bands?
We have the most serious and impressive pyrotechnics show on the western seaboard.
Are you in the process of recording a full-length right now? If so, how is it going?
Yes, we just finished the tracking and are about to start mixing. We’re really happy with it and look forward to the release in early ‘09.
There are some blues elements in your music. How did that come about?
It’s a genre and sound that we all connect with. Rock and Roll’s roots lay in Blues and we respect that.
