fillmore map2 5 Reasons to See: Anything at the Fillmore, SFThe Fillmore is a historic venue founded by Emma Gates Butler in 1912 and made famous by Bill Graham in the early 60′s.  From 1968-1980 the venue was renamed “The Elite Club” and then had to closed down due to earthquake damage in 1989.  After extensive repair and retrofitting, the building re-opened its doors in 1994.  Everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Aretha Franklin have played there.  But, the long and illustrious history of the Fillmore is only part of what makes it so awesome.  Here are 5 reasons why everyone should see a show there.

  1. The venue has an old Victorian feel to it like the best houses of San Francisco.  In other words, it is true to its roots.
  2. They never oversell.  You can stand up or sit down and not be jostled, and the women’s bathroom line moves quickly.

  1. There is a kickass balcony that is only reserved during really high profile shows.  Normally anyone can sit and enjoy the birds eye view in comfort and style.
  2. The tradition of giving out apples and posters at the end of the show.  If you are a real Fillmore enthusiast you could wallpaper your house with a vibrant shade of awesome with your collection.
  3. Its history will amaze you.  The place has been there for so long that everyone from Jimmy Hendrix and the Grateful Dead to Fatboy Slim and the Smashing Pumpkins.  Take a tour of the posters on the wall to remember the good old days.
