Asthmatic Kitty Signs LAs Fol Chen

Asthmatic Kitty seems to be the “it” label this year as they keep constantly accrue new artists for their roster. The newest addition to the label is Los Angeles favorite, Fol Chen. The label will release the band’s debut album, Part 1: John Shade, Your Fortune’s Made on February 3rd. The band will also be touring in 2009, including a stop at SXSW.  In the meantime they have a show scheduled on November 18th in LA at The Echo. Take note that this is quite impressive since Fol Chen has only been around for a few months. So if you’re in the area next week, catch the show and congratulate the innovative, sonic indie pop band.

Haven’t experienced the magnetic charm of Fol Chen yet? Here’s an enticing message from the band themselves:

You know that mysterious black object that the creepy family is staring at on the cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Presence” album?  Fol Chen sound like that. But we don’t sound like Led Zeppelin. (We actually do
a little.) Instead, we sound like Prince with Amon Duul II and a children’s religious revival, not to mention Hot Chip, Pink Floyd, Gwen Stefani, Pere Ubu, Danielson Famile, Scritti Politti, Boards of Canada, The Blow, and Pulp. (Mostly.) We are using secret powers and the guidance of legendary DJ Donna Donna to combat our nemesis, John Shade. We are cryptic and joyful and we would like you to dance.

After releasing this statement, it’s hard not to believe that their show at The Echo won’t be a fun one.
