The Pipettes Lose Another Member
By KevinThe Pipettes are having a hard time keeping members in the group lately. Members Rose “Rosay” Elinor Dougall and Rebecca “RiotBecki” Stephens left the band earlier this year, quickly being replaced by Ani Saunders and Anna McDonald. Well, after about six months with the group, Anna has now left too.
Read the statement from The Pipettes after the break.
The most recent addition to the Pipettes, Anna MacDonald, has abruptly announced her decision, but days ago, to pursue a song-writing career outside of the band.
As a consequence, we are regretfully forced to cancel our performance at SWN Festival this Friday. This is something we are all very upset about.
Plans to record the next Pipettes album are still afoot, and as such, our quest for the perfect Pipette continues…

Why have The Pipettes had such a hard time holding on to members lately? As the group have started becoming more successful, members keep leaving. Maybe the singers can only take singing the bubblegum pop sound so long before it becomes grating. Let’s hope they have more luck with their next hire.

This may make me sound like a little teeny bopper but all these line up changes really do make me sad. The Pipettes have become the new Menudo/Sugababes and it’s a shame because no matter how many times they re-record parts for the same record, it’s not the same. I believed that their clever indie pop sound along with their visual concept was something so refreshing (combining old school with new school -i.e. Shangri-las + Lucky Soul) and now there are no original members. Also, don’t you think it’s a bit suspicious that the only two girls left are sisters?
