CD REVIEW: Momu “Momentum”
By Leslie AnnMomu, emerging as a progressive-beat duo hailing from San Francisco, gives us their new album, along with a new sound, in Momentum. With a more subtle approach to this genre, Momentum demonstrates a softness that wasn’t as prevalent in the groups other work, namely 2006’s self-titled debut which was critically well received. You may have even heard a track or two from Momu on Dance Dance Revolution. Yeah, they’re just that awesome.
Honestly, the album started off a little slow for me, however beyond the first couple tracks is where the true beauty lies in this album. In keeping with the quality that Momu has been known for, Momentum is a solid dance album, breaking the boundaries of the genre it helped create by drifting into a more playful sound. The tracks are diverse yet with that reliable underlying mood, making this a great album for breakbeat junkies and newbies alike. Any Momu fan would be proud to add this to their collection.
The CD is available now and you can buy tracks directly from the artist (cheaper and goes directly to them) on Momu’s MySpace or on Momu’s site.
If you’re into funky dance beats, give this album a whirl.
