bono NEWS: Bono Launches RED (WIRE)

In celebration of World AIDS Day Bono launched the website RED (WIRE) yesterday. The online music magazine will feature exclusive tracks from musical artists that users can access for a $5 membership fee.

Each week’s issue of (RED)WIRE has an exclusive track from a major artist, a song by an artist they want you to hear, updates from Africa, and an extra such as a short video of someone telling a story, a slideshow of great photography, someone reading something they love. A new track is available to download from the site each Wednesday, and all digital files are DRM free so you can burn them on a CD or put them on your MP3 player.

Half of every membership fee goes to The Global Fund which helps administer medicine to those living with HIV in Africa.

Check out a list of the artists currently involved in the project after the break:

U2
Jenny Lewis
The Killers
Elton John
Neil Tennant (from the Pet Shop Boys)
John Legend
Dixie Chicks
Elvis Costello
The Police
