Madonna is the #1 Tour in 2008
By Matt Unangst
Pollstar, the leading authority on the subject of concert news, has released monetary figures on 2008′s concert tours. Leading the way is Madonna, who brought in an astounding $105.3 million with her Sticky & Sweet tour. It seems like the older the act, the better the revenue. The only groups/musicians who began their careers in the past 20 years are country acts Kenny Chesney and Rascal Flatts.
Here is the full top ten (numbers are in millions of dollars):
1. Madonna -105.3
2. Celine Dion – 94
3. The Eagles – 73.4
4. Kenny Chesney – 72.2
5. Bon Jovi – 70.4
6. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band – 69.3
7. Neil Diamond – 59.8
8. Rascal Flatts – 55.8
9. The Police – 48
10. Tina Turner – 47.7
It’s amazing how far ahead Madonna and Celine Dion are and how bad most of this music is. I wouldn’t pay to see any of these in concert, even if someone offered me a ticket. Yet somehow all of them are raking in huge amounts of money for their concerts – I guess you have to be old and kind of awful to get the big bucks from the middle-aged people with money and nostalgia. I didn’t even know Tina Turner was still touring.
