Led Zeppelin Frontman Honored by the Queen
By Morelli
Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant has received a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) in the UK’s 2009 New Year’s Honors List, for his services to music.
Also honored this year are Scottish singer-songwriter and maverick guitarist John Martyn (awarded an OBE) and jazz saxophonist Courtney Pine (CBE).
Plant has lately denied rumors that Led Zeppelin are set to tour next year, in a statement released in September, saying that he is working on a new album with American bluegrass singer Alison Krauss.
“It’s both frustrating and ridiculous for this story to continue to rear its head when all the musicians that surround the story are keen to get on with their individual projects and move forward.”
In other areas, fantasy author Terry Pratchett becomes a CBE, while racing driver Lewis Hamilton is made an MBE.
