It is not often an artist emerges who is willing to be consistently bright and happy both within the context of their music and in their life. Happiness can sometimes be mistaken for cheesiness, silliness, not artistic so many artists run away from joy as though it were as big of a career plague as, say, heroin or VH1. Tim Myers, however, is not most artists, he is willing to bring the sunshine of California to the studio and create music that is fun, fresh and above all else blissfully good. BeatCrave had the opportunity to talk with Tim Myers about his inspiration for creating music, the evolution of the music industry, working with OneRepublic and his upcoming full-length album. Check out what Tim Myers has to say and, if you haven’t already, be sure to take a listen to “The Good Life” EP available on iTunes. For those of you in the Los Angeles area, join Tim Myers at the Lili Claire Foundations 11th Annual Benefit Concert October 4, 2008 (9:00 | Santa Monica Civic Auditorium (map) | $50 Buy Tickets).

Apple may be heading to court – in Norway of all places – for refusing to make iTunes work with .mp3 players other than iPods. The Consumer Ombudsman of Norway, Bjoern Erik Thon, has claimed that Apple has refused repeated attempts by government officials to make iTunes interoperable with other players, not only in Norway, but also in other Scandinavian nations, France, and Germany. Despite some progress in negotiations, Thon believes than Apple has not done nearly enough and has brought suit. He hopes to get support from other nations, but as the case currently stands, it would go before the Norwegian Market Council, a consumer court.
I don’t know Norwegian, so I can’t read what the law says, but Thon claims that Norwegian law guarantees the right of people to play downloaded music on the player of their choice. If the case is successful, it could have positive ramifications for music listeners around the world, who would no longer be stuck with iPods if they wanted something else.
The All-American Rejects are scheduled to release their eagerly awaited third album WHEN THE WORLD COMES DOWN, on November 18th on DGC/Interscope/Doghouse. The new album follows-up the RIAA double-platinum Move Along, released July 2005. WHEN THE WORLD COMES DOWN is The All-American Rejects’ first project with veteran producer Eric Valentine, known for his work with multi-platinum artists Maroon 5, Smash Mouth, Good Charlotte, Queens Of the Stone Age, and more.
Check out their first single “Gives You Hell” here.
thenewno2 will play the final show for their Key Club residency, tonight, September 30. Each week since the residency began there’s been a steady increase in the number of people at the shows. Check BeatCrave’s review of the show here.
Also, thenewno2 has just announced plans for a physical release of “You Are Here,” their debut CD. Band frontman Dhani Harrison decided to eschew the record label process and put the album out first digitally in August without any fanfare. The physical release of the album will not be available on CD, but on slotMusic cards produced by SanDisk. Dhani, who is extremely tech savvy, approached the company several months ago about releasing his album through a memory card which can be played in a phone, computer, and other devices. As soon as it’s releases, probably sometime in mid-October we’ll be sure to let you know!
