Thrash Tuesday: Rattlesnake!

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 8:09AM - By

staticlullaby08 09 30 Thrash Tuesday: Rattlesnake!Six years after the band’s inception, A Static Lullaby returns with their fourth full length album, Rattlesnake!. With the past two installments of A Static Lullaby not living up to 2003’s …And Don’t Forget to Breathe, Rattlesnake! is going to make you spasm and jump harder than a Pentecostal church revival. This  album marks the band’s first attempt as a four piece and is more than just a few songs to thumbs up on Pandora.

A Static Lullaby has seen it all. A successful debut album, putting them on the map and signing with Columbia Records followed by a lack luster sophomore attempt with Faso Latido. The band then left Columbia for Fearless Records, lost two original members, and released their third full length entitled, coincidentally enough, A Static Lullaby. Their self titled did somewhat better than Faso Latido but the direction of the band was not fully realized until Rattlesnake!

Album Review: Waxwane by Love You Moon

Monday, September 29, 2008 9:37PM - By

waxwane1 Album Review: Waxwane by Love You MoonI normally have really strong opinions about songs.  All I can think about is how much I loathe the new Britney Spears song but I will save that for another post.  I received this album last week and thought that I should have the review done by last Thursday.  It’s not that I didn’t listen to it’s that I have no idea what to say about it…but I have to attempt it…so here goes.

I think the problem is that I can’t find anything engaging about any of the songs.  They aren’t bad but they aren’t good.

The songs go too long without having some sort of interlude / breakdown in the last third of each one.  I was pretty much raised on Country and Pop.  Now I live on House music and Alt Rock.  In all of those genres, there is a common recipe for making a deliciously catchy song.

Another Bad Super Bowl Halftime Show

Monday, September 29, 2008 7:41PM - By

bruce springsteen front Another Bad Super Bowl Halftime ShowFor The NFL has picked yet another artist at least 20 years past his prime for its Super Bowl halftime show.  This time it’s Bruce Springsteen who gets to stumble around on stage for a hurried version of his greatest hits.  Since Michael Jackson’s memorable show all the way back in 1993, the NFL has picked artists bands that are completely past their prime, were never any good, or led to infamy.  The league is hugely popular right now and could make itself even more so by picking up-and-coming bands that people are excited to see instead of picking artists they are sure won’t offend anyone.

The Super Bowl will take place on February 1st in Tampa.

Concert Review: Eagles of Death Metal Make a Bang

Monday, September 29, 2008 2:00PM - By

eodmpressll09 27 08 257x240 Concert Review: Eagles of Death Metal Make a BangOn September 25th, an eclectic crowd gathered at The Mayan in downtown Los Angeles for the final show of the Hives/ Eagles of Death Metal/Willowz tour.  From scenesters and seasoned followers of local indie faves the Willowz, to the savvy black and white clad Hives devotees, everyone in attendance was poised for a night of musical magnificence.

Among these contrasting fan-bases was a smattering of tattooed greasers and leather clad vixens, huddled in select groups throughout the venue.  They casually sipped on cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon, occasionally stopping to take a drag off of their cigarettes.  It was obvious that these seasoned rockers were anticipating a different vibe than that of their alt-indie and garage pop bretheren.  Plain and simple, these folks were here to rock ‘n’ roll.  And rock ‘n’ roll they would, to the hip shakin’, boot scootin’ boogie woogie sound of the fast-paced desert rock band, Eagles of Death Metal.
