Arcade Fire Writes the Score for ‘The Box’

Looks like the Arcade Fire has been busy. Although the band took a little down time towards the end of 20o8, it appears that they were simply gearing up for a big 2009. It looks like they’ll have a new album, a new tour, and a new movie! The band has just written the score for The Box, a film by Donnie Darko Director Richard Kelly starring Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, and Frank Langella, set to be released in November 2009. Win Butler, his wife and co-leader of the band Régine Chassagne, and Final Fantasy’s Owen Pallett all came together to complete their first film score ever.
The band never thought they would do the entire score, but once they started they just couldn’t stop. Win Butler says about the experience:
“We didn’t really think we were going to do the whole thing, and then it just kind of was easier once we got in. It was like, ‘Oh well, we’ll just keep going.’ It has so much to do with the editing, and your job is just to help the director. It’s a very different experience.”

I for one can’t wait to hear the score to this movie. If any band could make the cross-over it’s definitely Aracade Fire. Their music already tells a story, so it’s about time they made that story one that is for the screen.
What do you think? You think they should stick to albums or movie over to films?
