Leonard Cohen to Play American Show
By Matt Unangst
Legendary singer Leonard Cohen will play his first American show since 1993 on February 19. The show, set to take place on February 19 at the Beacon Theater in New York, has been forced upon Cohen due to his manager losing/stealing $5 million of his money and then refusing to pay a $9 million settlement. Cohen has been touring in Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand since May in his first tour since his 1993 tour, after which he became a Buddhist monk until all his money was stolen (which kind of shows the typical Hollywood approach to Buddhism – preach to other people about their lifestyles as long as you don’t have to worry about money yourself).
Tickets to the show, of which there will be 2,800 available, go on sale Friday (Feb. 16th). They will no doubt be hugely expensive, this being the first show in a long time by an artist with a devout following, all of whom will want to say they were there for the Leonard Cohen show. But who knows if he still even any good? He probably wasn’t working on his music while a monk and is really old (74). It’s no doubt a gimmick – see Leonard Cohen for the last time – until his next farewell concert in 5 years. At least his being old won’t affect his voice that much since he barely sung his songs to begin with.
