Gorillaz Record in Syria for Next Release
By MorelliGorillaz front men, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, announced that in March they will be collaborating with Arabic musicians in Syria for their, as yet untitled, follow-up to 2005’s ‘Demon Days’.
On BBC 1 radio, Albarn said:
“I’m going to Syria because I’ve got a real fascination with Arabic orchestral music. We’re going at the end of March for Gorillaz.”
Albarn aired two new demos ‘Electric Shock‘ and ‘Broken‘, which featured Arabian percussion and flutes with Wurlitzer organs. Orchestral and composed, while maintaining a beat, the new fusion is soothing, and results in a layered yet mellow composition. The instruments are electronically well mixed, so nothing feels out of place, which differs somewhat from previous Gorillaz endeavors.
It’s exciting to see Gorillaz go to new places and new cultures to achieve what they desire in their music. Redundancy is definitely something they don’t want in their next release.
Looking forward to it?
