BeatCrave Fav: The Kills
By Mali
Mix on part Floridian punker and one part British rocker, you create the magic behind The Kills. Mosshart began with punk rock band Discount, and Hince was in the British rock bands Scarfo and Blyth Power when the two first met. They decided to join forces after Mosshart heard Hince practicing in the hotel room above hers, and the two formed a musical bond. What began as an air-mail collaboration, soon turned into a London project.
They renamed themselves VV and Hotel respectively and began writing sparse, minimalist songs together with the aid of a drum machine. The duo is in no way new, they’ve been around since 2001, but just recently they’ve began to get more radio and Internet play. I personally can’t get enough of them. Their sound is reminiscent of Susie and the Banshies mixed with Nirvana and a bit of modern Indie.
