Thom Yorke goes Dubstep with The Eraser Rmxs
By Morelli
If you haven’t been able to get your hands on Thom Yorke’s The Eraser Rmxs, be prepared for the newest electronic music directly from Europe: Dubstep. Counting with remixed tracks from some of the best European dubstep composers, The Eraser Rmxs has been available in the past via mp3 download, and was released in Japan in 2008.
Burial, Various, Modeselecktor and Four Tet are just some of the names on the groundbreaking album, and all of the artists are worth checking out individually. If you like dance-floors, but hate the often cheesy music, be hopeful, for dubstep is spreading, and represents some of the best electronic yet danceable music available in the clubbing scene.
The style is best described as a mixture of dub beats, with heavy, fuzzy bass-lines that are comparable with drum and bass. Artists have also involved Angolan Kuduro and glitch Aphex Twin-like electronica. Here’s the track listing:
- “And It Rained All Night (Burial Remix)” – 4:13
- “Skip Divided (Modeselektor Remix)” – 5:35
- “Analyse (Various Remix)” – 4:09
- “Atoms for Peace (Four Tet Remix)” – 5:56
- “Black Swan (Cristian Vogel Spare Parts Remix)” – 6:09
- “Black Swan (Vogel Bonus Beat Eraser Remix)” – 7:50
- “Harrowdown Hill (The Bug Remix)” – 6:09
- “The Clock (Surgeon Remix)” – 6:23
- “Cymbal Rush (The Field Late Night Essen Und Trinken Remix)” – 8:07
The album is definitely worth checking out, and if the style piques your interest, listen to some other artists like Shackleton, Rusko, Buraka Som Sistema and Skream.
