The Streets’ Mike Skinner injured while crowdsurfing

On Tuesday, 30-year-old UK grime rapper/singer Mike Skinner (of The Streets) learned the perils of acting younger than his body could handle.
Skinner wrote on his MySpace that he had sustained serious injuries while crowdsurfing at a Cambridge performance with his group The Streets. Here’s how he described the incident:
“Tonight someone held onto my belt so hard that my hernia scar from many years ago opened up to a bright red colour,” Skinner wrote. “Looks like a wee organ might pop out of its purpley red bloody gash.”
After the show, Skinner was treated by ambulance attendants immediately who told him to “cut back” on his crowdsurfing and stop letting fans grab him.
I’m thinkin’ Skinner should just nix the whole crowdsurfing thing… Last time I went to see The Streets, it was a chill group – crowdsurfing would not have been welcomed. In this situation, his fans were obviously unhappy (hence the violence).
Maybe Skinner just needs a friendly reminder that the 90s are over and hip-hop and crowdsurfing never really mixed… Hopefully he’ll be thinking these things over as The Streets continue to tour the UK and Australia through February.
What would you have done in the situation? Should Skinner stop crowdsurfing?
