Spotify gets ‘Restricted’ by Major Labels
By Morelli
Spotify posted on their blog that their music catalogue will be reduced in quantity and some tracks will be removed for certain countries. The free streaming music service is being bullied by the major labels to restrict their distribution and although Spotify is compiling, they are not happy about it. From the blog:
“These restrictions are a legacy from when most music was sold on tapes and CDs and they have continued over into streaming music, our hope is that one day restrictions like this will disappear for good.”
Spotify is a music service that you can freely download and differs from Web-based services such as Last.fm, Maestro.fm, Pandora, etc., by streaming the music straight to your desktop. Now, many songs on Spotify that are shared to different countries will no longer play and some tracks have been completely removed from the service. Spotify reassures users on their blog:
“We have not lost any licenses and no labels have stopped working with us, this is just a matter of updating our catalogue to be in line with the agreements we actually have.”
Still, from recent developments in the music industry, we can hope that the major labels will cast away their archaic conduct,\ and move into the new century by easing the pressure on digital distribution.

I think Spotify is a brilliant idea. I check albums streaming, then if they are worthy of reaching my ipod I buy the MP3s.
