Bonnaroo Lineup is Here! Springsteen, Phish, Beastie Boys, NIN to Headline
By davidhall
Just a week ago, Bonnaroo’s website advertised that the 2009 lineup would be revealed Feb. 3. Well, those SOBs pulled fast one on us and announced the lineup yesterday!
Sorry folks, apparently rumors are just rumors – no Zeppelin this year. But they did snag Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band! And Phish (called that one) returning to the ‘Roo stage for two nights!

Whew! Puts sweat on my brow just thinking about all those great bands playing out there under the beautiful Tennessee sky. And this year, with artists ranging from David Byrne to Animal Collective to Gov’t Mule to Snoop Dogg, there’s something for everyone (if you were hoping for a Kanye comeback, get lost).
Key bands to see:
- Beastie Boys: So far this is their only North American tour date scheduled for this year, and with rumors of a new album swirling, this could be the first sneak peak at some new material!
- Ben Harper and the Relentless7: Harper, a ‘Roo veteran, returns with his new band. For those of you that missed his 15 minute jam version of “Dazed and Confused” with John Paul Jones two years ago (basically, one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen), here’s your chance to redeem yourself.
- Gomez: This Brit supergroup is releasing its sixth full-length album, “A New Tide,” on March 31. If you haven’t seen Gomez live, here’s a helpful hint just for you: new Gomez material LIVE = face-melting.
- Phish: Seriously, these guys are playing two nights… TWO!! If you don’t make it to at least one of them, and drop at least three hits of acid, there are some issues with your priorities (OK, maybe one hit could get you through).
Ever wish you could’ve gone to Woodstock back in ’69? Well, with 80,000 people camping out to see some the greatest bands of our era, this is the closest you’ll ever get! Tickets go on sale Feb. 7 at 12 p.m. Eastern for $224.50 and prices will rise as tickets continue to sell, so grab ‘em fast!
This is just the initial lineup… and no word about the SuperJam… who do you want to team up for the SuperJam this year? Who else should be added to the line up?

I checked under the bed, turned my wallet inside out, and cleaned my car – where the hell am I going to scrounge up 224.50? (what's with the half dollar- is that some sort of bad joke / cherry on top?) Guess I'm just going to have to steal from the senile old grandfolks again.
Am I tired of seeing Wilco live? NEVER! (eat your heart out Jay Bennett!)
Do I fear an unholy surplus of bugged out phish fans? YES!
Will I faint at the sight of David Byrne? PROBABLY!
God bless Bonarroo and unlike you sorry civilians, I'm gonna have dhall (aka ol' vet) to show me around.

[...] Maybe it was the dreary mood set by the thick morning fog or perhaps the fatigue from the past three days of musical mayhem was finally taking hold, but at any rate, I found it exceptionally hard to drag myself out of my tent on the fourth and final day of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.
