Finally Someone Fights Ticketmaster
By Matt Unangst
Tickets went on sale for Bruce Springsteen’s upcoming New Jersey Meadowlands show Monday, and Springsteen both being from New Jersey and coming off his popular Super Bowl appearance, the tickets were selling like hotcakes. But some fans couldn’t buy tickets. Instead they received an error message from Ticketmaster and were instead directed to buy tickets from TicketsNow, a company owned by Ticketmaster, for prices hundreds of dollars higher than what Ticketmaster was offering. Now, Congressman Bill Pascrell is asking the FTC and the Justice Department to investigate Ticketmaster for the issue.
I’m glad that someone’s finally taking on Ticketmaster. I’m sick of being ripped off for all of the processing fees that Ticketmaster charges for every single ticket order I make. It does not cost $4 per ticket (or more) to process an order, especially when someone orders 10 tickets. Ticketmaster built up the business of gouging customers for every show or sporting event they would ever want to attend and slowly shoved every competitor out of the way until there was no one else left and they could gouge even more. But now there is a chance for humanity with some other retailers emerging, if only because venues wanted to gouge themselves, and Pascrell trying to investigate Ticketmaster.
Does everyone hate Ticketmaster or is it just me?
