Bob Marley’s family has struck a deal with private equity firm Hilco to license the reggae legend’s name, lyrics and image for merchandising. The family (including Ziggy and Damian) is ready to put Marley’s name on shoes, hotels, beer, coffee, video games, and musical instruments, among other products.

The family has gotten tired of black-market products using the singer’s name freely. His eldest daughter, Cedella, told the BBC:

“This is a big business for bootleggers. We want to stop some of the nonsense, and make sure the great stuff upholds our standards. We’re in control.”

Even though the Marley estate hasn’t been effectively sold, the licensing deal will launch a number of products, including children’s toys, luggage, and a global chain of “One Love” cafés that would feature live music and Jamaican food.

While feeding the demand for Bob Marley merchandise, the family hopes to protect the Marley name from over-commercialization, and keep control over the famous star’s marketable image. Now we can feel the hope and peace and togetherness while snowboarding or buying stationary!

Marley coffee anyone?
