iTouch Becomes iPhone with a Download
By Morelli
If you have an iPod Touch, you can turn it into a mobile phone using downloadable applications Truphone and Jahjah, two Voice over IP (VoIP) providers. Now your mp3 player can be a phone with web-activated telephony, which uses VoIP to connect traditional phones. It can be cheaper than normal rates or even free, provided you have a wireless connection to your iPod. Jajah CEO Trevor Healy said in a statement:
“Millions of people around the world already have an iPod Touch in their pocket. With Jajah’s solution, any company can turn their customers’ iPod Touch into a fully functioning mobile phone.”
The Jajah VoIP platform is available to other companies, and is already used by a number of tech giants, including Intel, Yahoo and Comcast. The fusion of music and mobile phones make industry players drool, so we can expect to see future devices with this kind of functionality.
The only hitch is that you must have access to a Wi-fi network, and though wireless connections are pretty common nowadays, the application won’t be useful for every area. Still, Truphone offers Skype functionality if you’re looking to slash your phone costs, and you get an extra role for your mp3 player!
You can download Truphone at their website, and get Jahjah by visiting http://mobile.jajah.com on your mobile web browser.
