BeatCrave Fav: Chromeo
By Seraphina L.
Chromeo may be the best combination of Electronica and Funk out there today. They are considered our generation’s Hall & Oates because they are a Montreal/New York duo who constantly churn out hits with their own spin on songwriting. Just like Hall & Oates were the blue eyed soulsters of the 70′s and 80′s (they’re responsible for so many beats we still use today such as the back beat in “Billie Jean”), we hear the talent again when Chromeo revolutionizes our current sound. Using keyboards, synthesizers, the talk box, and guitar, the duo (comprised of two long-time best friends) describe themselves as “the only successful Arab/Jewish collaboration since the beginning of time.”
If their music weren’t enough credibility alone, Dave 1 is currently teaching undergraduate French Literature classes at Columbia University, and his brother is the one and only A-Trak who spins for Kanye West. As for that Hall & Oates reference… let’s just say my dream is coming true. Chromeo is currently working on material with Daryll Hall, and I have nothing but high expectations for whatever they create together!
