Musicians for the Youtube Symphony Orchestra have been selected, and all their videos are posted on YouTube, organized by instrument section. Winners from 30 countries will travel to New York to participate in a three-day classical music summit, and then perform at Carnegie Hall on 15 April under San Francisco Symphony Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas.

As Beatcrave previously reported, the YouTube Symphony is helping classical music reach younger musicians by means of the Internet’s popular video site. The orchestra was organized by soliciting video auditions from musicians worldwide, and a panel of members hailing from a number of world orchestras narrowing down over 3,000 submissions from more than 200 countries.

The idea started in December 2008, and the composition by Oscar-winning composer Tan Dun, called Internet Symphony No 1, “Eroica”, is the music that will be played by the talented few who made the cut.The 200 finalists were made known on 14 February, and the YouTube community then voted for its favorites to play in the world’s first online orchestra.

At this time, the Symphony’s channel has 4,118,618 views, and the performance at Carnegie hall will be hosted on the channel on April 16th. Don’t miss it! If you want tickets, they’re available here.
