After Phish announced their reunion in January, now they are making their live recordings available for free! The jam band will distributing all of its reunion concerts available for download in high-quality mp3 format at livephish.com. Guitarist and singer Trey Anastasio says on the site that:

“We really wanted to show our gratitude to all the Phish fans for their support and the overwhelming response they’ve had to these shows. It’s going to be an amazing celebration and we only wish everybody could be there.”

The first recording will be the March 6th concert at Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, VA, and the band states that they will be recording the shows in their own “mobile multitrack studio”. Mobile mixing really helps distribute live performance recordings, as the band can release material on the fly while they’re on tour.

Phish will then mix the shows overnight for immediate delivery online, and the 256kbps mp3s will be accessible for a limited time. You can also buy the recording in FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) and CD formats.

Stay on your toes, and make sure you get those downloads tomorrow at the Live Phish webpage. Hurray for free music!

Crazy. Who would have thought a multitrack recording studio would be used to release demos on the fly as well as developing them.
