Manchester Orchestra Announce Breakthrough Video Series
By Allison
Manchester Orchestra, the indie rockers from Atlanta, are breaking ground with a new kind of storytelling concept. One music video has been made to accompany each song of their highly anticipated album, Mean Everything to Nothing. The first video, to accompany the song The Only One, will be debuting on absolutepunk.net on March 11th. Each new video will be another “chapter” for the album; something to help the listeners find the many layers of meaning within the songs.
The band is, once again, collaborating with the Emmy award-winning duo of Clay Lipsky and Jason Bognacki of Destroy Rock Music Inc. The duo also directed the video for I Can Barely Breathe, from the band’s debut I’m Like a Virgin Losing a Child. Their 2007 album gained the attention of the music industry, and eventually led to their signing with Canvasback. In early September the band reported on their Myspace blog that they had begun recording their second LP entitled Mean Everything to Nothing with producer Joe Chicarrelli, which is scheduled to be released April 21, 2009.
The first video for the song The Only One explores the themes of love, loss, joy, and pain that the band’s music is so well known for. Lipsky notes that the vision behind the video was to:
“…create a cinematic collage of decaying film and lost memories intertwined with a loose narrative about a young woman on a surreal journey to find what she is missing. The grainy, dusty nature behind the look of the individual clips allows them to demonstrate a very unique way of storytelling… The grunge and grit of aging films is both aesthetically beautiful, but also compelling as a window into generations of lost memories.”
Attention, fans! The first video may be premiering on absolutepunk.net, but the subsequent videos will be released on different websites up to, and after, the April 21st street date. So, keep your eyes peeled!
The tracks on the record are as follows:
- The Only One
- Shake It Out
- I’ve Got Friends
- Pride
- In My Teeth
- 100 Dollars
- I Can Feel a Hot One
- My Friends Marcus
- Tony the Tiger
