Former Guns N’ Roses axeman Slash is going to record a cover of Led Zeppelin’s song Kashmir with electronic string quartet Escala. The artists are set to record in Los Angeles later this week, after being brought together by Escala’s manager Simon Cowell.

Escala rose to fame when they reached the final of the second series of the show “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2008. The Sun reports that:

“He was looking for someone unexpected to work with the girls and asked if he’d be interested. [Slash] really liked the idea and jumped at the chance.”

The announcement is on Escala’s official web site, and the source said that “Simon thinks Slash is incredible and they got on like a house on fire at Elt’s party,” referring to an LA party hosted by Elton John, where Slash and Cowell met.

The cover of Kashmir is for the quartet’s debut album, set for release in May. The song is one of Zeppelin’s most popular, so let’s hope Slash and the quartet are up to the task. In any case, the collaboration should produce interesting results, so stay alert!

Britain’s Got Talent finalists Escala marked the start of Red Cross Appeal Week on their social networking channels – including Twitter, Facebook and their website – reaching nearly 150,000 people. In the run up to the charity’s annual fundraising week, the glamorous string quartet encouraged supporters to fundraise as they toured the UK in a publicity tour. Escala have now visited Red Cross projects in London, Glasgow, Birmingham and Newcastle, as well as taking part in a first aid training course.

Red Cross Appeal Week is the British Red Cross’ annual fundraising week, held over the week of 8 May, the anniversary of the birth of Henry Dunant, founder of the Red Cross Movement.

Across the UK, people have been collecting money in their local area or organising fundraising events with friends or colleagues. As recent British Red Cross supporters, Escala are looking forward to getting more involved with the charity and supporting further fundraising events.
