where the wild things are1 Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire Set to Soundtrack Spike Jonzes New Film

The newest film from Spike Jonze, an adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s children’s book Where the Wild Things Are, will feature Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Arcade Fire on its soundtrack. The story is about a boy who creates a forest inhabited by many large imaginary monsters, which is to be the background for compositions from Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Arcade Fire’s track Wake Up.

Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox also worked on the score with Karen O, who mentioned “bizarre instruments” in the composition. Jonze co-wrote the screenplay with author Dave Eggers  and the cast include Forest Whitaker, Paul Dano, Catherine Keener and James Gandolfini.

Where the Wild Things Are has had some problems getting finished, because the “mouths and facial features” weren’t up to standard. But the movie will be corrected, and is set for release in October this year, so we’ll definitely get to see the results. Arcade Fire has previous experience with movie scores, having written the music for the recent film The Box.

The musicians are all friends of Spike Jonze, having worked on music video projects together, and that chemistry, combined with the classic children’s book tale of the extraordinary makes a compelling mix. The trailer will be up in a few weeks, and will use Wake Up from Arcade Fire’s 2004 album, Funeral.

Will the collaboration produce a quality movie, guaranteed?
