Concert Tickets: Nine Inch Nails, Coldplay, Doves and More

The summer concert ticket buying bonanza is in full swing as this week you have a full slate of options on how to spend the entertainment portion of your budget. Want some 90′s throwback? Got ya covered. Cool British band? We have two for you! Kids bugging you to take them to a show? Get out your wallet. Here’s an overview of the national concert onsales for this weekend, both big and small.

AMPHITHEATERS AND ARENAS

Nine Inch Nails/ Janes Addiction/ Street Sweeper-

In an attempt to party like it’s 1991 (quick, pullout your yellow ribbons and Super Nintendo Systems), three of the main components on the original Lollapalooza tour, Trent Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails, the original lineup of Janes Addiction and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello’s new project, Street Sweeper, have joined forces for a full spring/ summer tour. This will not only be the first time that all four original members of Janes Addiction have toured since ’91, but Reznor has also claimed that this will be NIN’s last U.S. tour in the foreseeable future ( maybe he can branch out and open an Italian restaurant called “Nine Inch Gnocchi” ).

While not as exciting as the rumored Nine Inch Nails/ Rage Against the Machine co-headlining tour that was floating around a few months ago, the (somewhat mis-matched) pairing of NIN and Jane’s has been well received and should fill the amphitheaters with the young and kinda old alike. The tour begins on May 28th in West Palm Beach, Florida, then hit amphitheaters throughout the country before ending in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 12th. Coldplay-

After taking some time off time following their Grammy triumphs and making the best puppet video of all time, Coldplay has announced more dates on their already lengthy summer tour of the United States. Dates have been added in West Palm Beach, Atlanta, Virginia Beach, Washington, D.C., Hartford, Hershey, Philadelphia, Saratoga Springs, Scranton, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Detroit, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, San Antonio, Des Moines, Omaha and Irvine.

This is in addition to the previously announced dates in the US west and Southwest that I won’t list again because you probably already have tickets. Non-puppet bands Amadou & Mariam and Kitty, Daisy and Lewis open most dates (Elbow opens a couple of shows at the end of the tour). Kid Rock/ Lynyrd Skynyrd-

In the most obvious pairing since chocolate and peanut butter, Kid Rock has announced a headlining tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd (or whatever version of the band is stil touring, check out the band member chart here).  Mr. Rock is still touring in support of his typically subdued “Rock ‘N Roll Jesus” album which has impressively sold close to 3 million copies in the United States and spawned the #1 crossover hit “All Summer Long”, which “sampled”… heavily… from Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” (maybe you’ve heard of it).

With Skynyrd back on the road some douchebag finally has a chance to yell out “Freebird” and mean it. Anywho, the tour sticks mostly to the East Coast with dates starting June 26th in West Palm Beach and finally ending August 2nd in New York. BIG ROOMS/ CLUBS

Doves-

Are you cool? Are you currently looking for a band that fits your “cool” lifestyle? Well, do I have a band for you! Doves, a band so cool that they scoff at the notion of needing a “The” in their name, have announced a rare North American tour which starts May 14th in San Diego and hits all the cool cities (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, Coolsville, USA a.k.a Detroit, Michigan) before ending June 7th in Boston, CA. Taking Back Sunday/ Anberlin/ Envy on the Coast-

In recognition of their upcoming release “New Again”, Taking Back Sunday is taking to the road (hopefully not ”The Road” outlined in the  Cormac McCarthy novel by the same name) with current radio buzzband, and all around good guys, Anberlin and Long Island’s Envy on the Coast opening.  The tour begins May 14 in Cleveland, then hits a city near you before finally ending June 27th in Boston. Riverboat Gamblers/ Fake Problems-

America’s best live band (check them out and then try to challenge me on it) The Riverboat Gamblers have announced an headlinging  club tour with Floridians Fake Problems opening. The four week tour begins April 3rd in Dallas and ends April 28th in Oklahoma City. Check out all the dates here.
