Wireless Mics for Guitar Hero and Rock Band 2

The wireless-capable microphones that shipped with Microsoft’s singing video game, Lips, will be compatible with Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Rock Band 2. Being hooked up to a video game console by a short cord impedes many of the more enthusiastic vocalist moves, so singers can revel in this forthcoming freedom.
Today, Microsoft officially announced that Guitar Hero: Metallica supports the wireless microphones, and Rock Band 2 will be updated this summer to add the feature. Microsoft also stated that “additional titles” will support the Lips microphone, which probably includes Harmonix’s upcoming Rock Band: Beatles.
Lips is a karaoke game on the Xbox, and the included microphones have built-in LED lights that pulse to the rhythm of your performance. Cross-game compatibility for hardware saves the player money, and even though Lips received a mixed response, the microphone is clearly a bonus to other music games.
Microsoft has released a list of the April song additions for Lips in celebration of the new functionality, which includes song packs from Coldplay, Ne-Yo and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Music video games take another small step in hardware compatibility, but will it be enough to warrant a purchase? Or is it just for those who already have the game?
