Events This Weekend: Fan-Tan, Tommy King, Blind Pilot…
Friday, April 10, 2009 10:00AM - By Lindsey Darden

For those of you not busy at Easter Egg hunts, check out some amazing shows below…
- Fan-Tan | Friday, April 10 | 8:00 pm | $10 | Pianos NYC, New York, NY – Map | The Brooklyn-based band (whose vocalist sounds eerily like Jack Johnson heading a new wave operation) will be holding a vinyl release party including performances by North Elementary, Dynasty Electric, Beluga, Hotcakes, and Wolff. For more info, call (212) 505-3733.
- Tommy King | Friday, April 10 | 11:00 pm | $10 | Hotel Cafe, Hollywood, CA – Map | The Jason Mraz-esque pop singer/keyboardist has a knack at channelling Queen and therefore Freddie Mercury in the catchy track “Get What You Deserve” (and not in a sacreligious way; click here to listen). Click here for tickets.
- Blind Pilot | Saturday, April 11 | 8:30 pm | $10 | 21+ | Spaceland, Los Angeles, CA – Map | It’s your last chance to see Portland, OR duo perform with their name heading the bill until they join The Decemberists on their tour for the better parts of May and June. Their refreshing simply-guitar-and-drum approach holds its own without heavy synths and overdubbing. This evening, they will be playing with with Loch Lomond and The F Scott Band. Tickets are available at the door the night of the show; for more information, call (323) 661-4380.
- Adios Mafia | Saturday, April 11 | 10:00 pm | Free! | Otto’s Shrunken Head, New York, NY – Map | Apparently Adios Mafia believes we’ve forgotten what rock is supposed to sound like. Upon listening to a few of their tracks – spirited, loud, high energy (a little bit of Aerosmith along with an original touch) – we sincerely appreciate the reminder. Their forte seems to be the live venue, so if that’s your scene, do show up. For more info, call (212) 228-2240.
- Sunny Hawkins | Sunday, April 12 |3:00 afternoon show; 7:00 pm evening show| $18| Yoshi’s Jazz Club and Japanese Restaurant, San Francisco, CA – Map | It is an understatement to say that the soul, jazz, and gospel singer has a voice that drips with honey. She will be giving the gift of two performances, and likely will feature tracks from her album “More of You” and other original songs. Click here for tickets.
