Moby’s Music Video by David Lynch
By sergiosoto
Moby, the experimental music wiz, has a new album coming out June 30th called “Wait For Me.” It’s a record that Moby seems to have controlled every aspect of. He recorded it in his home studio, drew the album artwork, had his friends (not “rockstars”) sing on the tracks, got his friends to take the photography, and even help in the mixing room. I, personally was never too concerned with Moby’s work, but after seeing his new video, directed by David Lynch, I’m actually pretty intrigued about this new one. Tomorrow, April 15, there will be a free download on the Moby website of the new track entitled, “Shot in the Back of the Head.”
Extremely dramatic and engaging, the video consists of crude drawing that exist in a surreal and violent world. Check out the video and what Moby has to say about it below…
Moby has claimed that this album is more of a personal one, compared to past efforts, and has had only artistic competence in mind. In 2008, Moby had mentioned David Lynch in a speech, which seems to add up to why he would want Lynch to direct the video.
David was talking about creativity, and to paraphrase, about how creativity in and of itself, and without market pressures, is fine. It seems that too often creative output is judged by how well it accommodates the marketplace, how much market share it commands and how much money it generates…In making this record i wanted to focus on making something that i loved, without really being concerned about how it might be received by the marketplace. as a result it’s a quieter, more melodic, more mournful and more personal record than some of the records i’ve made in the past.
Does the new Moby album seem worth your time?
