digtunnel CD Review: Hatcham Social, You Dig the Tunnel, Ill Hide the Soil

I  know, I know. I just featured this band for the Monday BeatCraveFav. But, the truth is, I quite like Hatcham Social. In fact, “quite like” is probably too weak a phrase to describe it. I just didn’t want to end up gushing, but, here it goes…

“You Dig the Tunnel, I’ll Hide the Soil” is full of upbeat songs. The riffs kind of hearken back to 60s rock and old school punk, but the arrangement of said riffs is definitively modern. The occasional bells and chimes are one of my favorite parts (especially in So So Happy Making and Crocodile).

The record is a highly successful combination of typical indie pop and punk music. It starts out with a lighter sound, but the songs eventually turn a little bit to the heavy and dark side.

I highly recommend picking this up. I know it’s a little difficult for us Yankees, but the official website lists some places where it can be ordered and shipped to you. Amazon has also made it available. It’s pricey, I won’t lie, but there are moments of pure joy on this album.
