Concert Tickets with Warped Tour, Outside Lands Festival and more
By Brian Spiegel
So while all of you lucky, employed people take off this weekend for the Coachella Music and Arts Festival (geez, not that I’m bitter or anything, no, just have a greattime… really enjoy it…bring me back an f-ing t-shirt…can I make your head explode with my passive aggressive mind power?), the rest of us can take solace in the fact that we can sit in front of our computer and purchase tickets to these wonderful shows this weekend.
Here, check these out (and enjoy Girl Talk, you Coachella bastards)…
- In the ever changing world of punk rock (think more fluorescent colors/ less black), the one constant for the past 15 years has been the Vans Warped Tour. And while the punk tour is now populated with metal, rap, screamo and, umm, whatever BrokeNYCDEis, it is still the destination for the old school and hot topic punk crowd alike on a sweltering Summer afternoon. This years addition, in an effort to keep prices down in this economic climate, promises less bands and stages (which is fine considering how overwhelming the day already is). Appearing throughout the forty six date, two month tour are such old schoolers as Bad Religion, NOFX, Anti-Flag, The Bouncing Souls, Flogging Molly, Less Than Jakeas well as new schoolers like Senses Fail, TAT, Dear In The Headlights, 3OH!3 and many, many others. You can check out individual dates and bands here.
- Sure, it may just be an excuse to ride the cable car or see the seal lions at Pier 39, but you might also be interested in hitting up San Francisco August 28-30 for the second annual Outside Lands Music Festival in the cities beautiful Golden Gate Park (ironically not near the Golden Gate Bridge, but don’t hold that against it). After Radiohead headlined last years shindig, this years three day festival will feature performances by Pearl Jam, the Dave Matthews Band, The Beastie Boys, Incubus, MIA, Modest Mouse, The Silversun Pickups and dozens more band to fill a sunny San Francisco afternoon. “Eager Beaver” three day tickets are on sale now for $199.50 (Beaver not included, apparently) and when those sell out prices go up to $225.50. Single day tickets won’t go on sale until closer to the show. You can find the full line-up and all relevant information here.
- Through their tumultuous yet successful career (label droppings, stints in rehab, Grammy Awards, etc.) Wilco has built a fanbase based on personal songs and raccouslive performances. The band has announced a month long US tour built around their June 13th appearance at the Bonnaroo Festival which begins June 12th in Cincinnati (try the five way chili) before hitting places like Texas (try the no bean chili), Los Angeles (try the Pink’s Chili Dogs) and New York (not really known for anything chili related, but Grey’s Papaya is always a good bet). You can check all dates here.
- May it be the Arcade Fire or the 1970′s Canadianshockey team, Montreal has a history of producing winners. From a live music standpoint, known for their lengthy and thorough live shows, you can add the Sunset Rubdownto the list of champions from the French-Canadian metropolis (quick, someone get them a banner). The band has announced a month long US and Canada tour in support of the release of their “Dragonslayer” LP due June 23rd on Jagjaguwar. The tour begins June 11th in Cambridge, MA then hits major cities in both countries before finally coming to an end on July 11th in Montreal. Check out the dates here.
- First they rocked SNL, and now French band Phoenix is bringing their show to your town (or a major city near your town, depending on where you live). The band has announced a very brief US/ Canada tour (think major cities that have hockey teams) that begins June 13th in Chicago and ends June 28th in Los Angeles. You can find dates here.
- America’s best live band The Riverboat Gamblers have announced some West Coast headlining dates in addition to previously announced tour dates with Fake Problems and Rise Against/ Rancid. You can find the new Arizona/ California dates here.
Who are you going to see?
