Walking On A Dream Album Review

With a name like Empire of the Sun, you have to know that your in for something good. Their debut album, Walking on a Dream, has already gone platinum in Australia. They have also been nominated for Best Newcomer by MTV Australia. Following a steady flow, the album is as cohesive and catchy as you could imagine.
You hear the songs once, and you’ll find yourself humming the tunes later on. The entire album is chalk full of humor, though it may not be apparent on the first listen. The songs do stand out as hits, but it seems as though they recorded this album with a strong sense of irony. Songs such as, “Without You,” that boast an intentionally cheesy sound force listeners to chuckle, and yet these tracks themselves are quite strong.
This electric duo creates a musical world that is fun and inviting. Almost every track on this album will, without a doubt, put a smile on your face. Steele’s unique vocals compliment the textures created in their songs.
Their appearance and presence has definitely got to be the funniest things about these guys. Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore (a.k.a. Emperor Steele and Lord Littlemore) have compiled the wardrobe ideas of some of the most glamorously flamboyant rock starts of the past. It is a mix of Adam Ant, Prince, and Bowie in Labyrinth. Upon watching their videos and interviews, you can plainly see how much fun they’re having with these personas.
Having both been in previous bands, Empire of the Sun is something of a departure from their past endeavors. It kind of seems like Littmore and Steele teamed up for this as a joke and then everybody actually liked it. It really is hard to dislike. Especially the videos. Those are great.
Do you think Empire of the Sun is too much of a joke, or just a real good time?
