Lilith Fair Returns In 2010
By Jeffrey Hyatt
Cue up the Indigo Girls. Lilith Fair is back!
The popular, all-female summer music festival co-founded by Sarah McLachlan, which ran from 1997 to 1999, will make its return next year.
Might be a good time to get reacquainted with my copies of Firecracker, Surfacing and A Few Small Repairs.
“We are happy to officially announce the long awaited return of Lilith Fair in the summer of 2010,” reads a statement on McLachlan’s website. “Please stay tuned for more details on the festival…”
On the festival’s official website, lilithfair.com, the message is simple: “returning in 2010…”
According to reports the new Lilith Fair will set out on a two-week tour of Europe and the U.K. sometime next year, but organizers are still mum on North American tour dates.
Lilith Fair co-founder Rich Adams (Nettwerk Music Group) has said that McLachlan would be part of the festival’s return, but didn’t specify whether it would be in the capacity of performer or organizer.
Lilith Fair staged 104 shows from 1997 to 1999 and featured hip lineups of female artists and bands including Natalie Merchant, the Pretenders, Tracy Chapman, Lisa Loeb, Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow, Erykah Badu, Sinead O’Connor, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt and Missy Elliot, among others.
In its 3 years the festival raised more than $10 million for women’s charities.
It’ll be interesting to see if the musical line-up for Lilith’s return will have a nostalgic feel, an emphasis on the new or, perhaps, a mixture of both. There’s no shortage of quality, female artists who have emerged in the 10-years since the festival’s last outing to make for a tempting bill.
I’d love to see Tracy Chapman and Natalie Merchant sharing the stage with Amy Whinehouse, Feist, Jenny Lewis and Neko Case. What artists would you like to see on the new Lilith Fair tour?
Are you excited about the return of Lilith Fair? Or do you think the festival is best left as a musical relic of the late ‘90s.

I'm soo excited about the return of the Lilith Fair.
I was too young to go to or even remember the original, but I think it'll be a great chance to give young feminist a chance to hear woman-positive music.
P.S.
I would love to see Tracy Chapman come back to the U.S.

I'm in if they decide to do the US on the East Coast. I'm hoping I can make it with my sister this time. THAT would be cool!!!

I think it would be great if they could include some new emerging artists on the tour as well as all the favorites, or course… Sarah had better perform!!! For emerging artists, I am really a big fan of Adrina Thorpe and if she were on the tour that would be amazing.
