Spoon and The Ponys

Indie-rockers Spoon will premiere new material from their forthcoming seventh album during a return to their native Austin, TX, in July for a three-night festival dubbed SpoonX3.

The SpoonX3 performances, set for July 9-11, will take place at the outdoor venue Stubb’s Amphitheater; each night will feature Spoon’s hand-picked guests, including …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears, Low, Dale Watson, Atlas Sound and the Strange Boys.

The as-yet-titled new Spoon album will be the follow-up to “Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga,” which came out in July 2007.

Regarding the new batch of tunes, Britt Daniel, Spoon’s lead singer, told Billboard.com, “It’s usually hard for me to describe new stuff.” I always hope it’s going to new territory, but it’s hard to tell. There’s a lot of guitar in them. I think they may be a bit sparser than the last album.”

Daniels has said the new album probably won’t surface this year – but there’s always the chance.

Besides the SpoonX3 residency and their visit to the Merge Records 20th Anniversary Festival (also in July), no other live dates are on the books for Spoon right now.

Spoon at SpoonX3:

  • July 09 – Austin, TX @ Stubbs’ Amphitheatre w/ Spoon, …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears
  • July 10 – Austin, TX @ Stubbs’ Amphitheatre w/ Spoon, Low, Dale Watson
  • July 11 – Austin, TX @ Stubbs’ Amphitheatre w/ Spoon, Atlas Sound, the Strange Boys

Three-day passes for SpoonX3 are now available at SpoonTheBand.com.
