livestream Mogulus Changes To Livestream, Offers Free Music Channels

Live video streaming site Mogulus has reinvented itself, with a new website aptly named Livestream.com. The service allows anyone to stream live video, and has stiff competition with similar sites Ustream and Justin.tv. Browsing the new design of the site, I discovered the “music” channels section.

At the time of writing this, I’ve so far listened to live rock jamming on Worm Radio in a garage-like setting, a live house mix by a real DJ on Club Groove,  and real jazz from central Florida at Jazz On Edge. I wonder when top-selling signed artists will adopt this sort of live streaming model.

It’s called Internet TV, but it’s more like “YouTV” since anyone can broadcast their own video online. I can easily imagine this type of streaming media becoming increasingly popular as bigger artists search for new ways to change fans. If Coldplay suddenly decided to broadcast a simple studio rehearsal, and properly announced it, then I’m sure they’d have a sizeable online attendance.

As broadcasting becomes more personal, many new artists are arriving on the scene entirely due to YouTube videos and broadcasts. Can live broadcasts be charged for? Furthermore, the coverage of band performances, in terms of quality, could range from teams of professional camera and sound technicians, to garage bands just wanting to get their music out there.

Do you want to see live footage of your favorite bands online? Can live streaming also affect other artistic areas?

Thanks for listening/watching Jazz On Edge. Our next show will be on Feb 5-6, 2010, and we plan on streaming the entire thing live as well as archiving the show, featuring pianist Edward Simon, the Tiptons Sax Quartet and the Cook Trio. It's nice to be discovered! (jazzonedge.com for more info)
