The La’s To Record a Second Album
By Kara
The La’s are back! Well not quite, but they are on their way. The La’s were popular in the late 80′s and early 90′s with their hit “There She Goes”. They never released a second album, but that is no longer the case. Lee Mavers is in the process of gathering musicians to release a second album. The first recruit is Babyshambles bassist, Drew McConnell. Mavers and McConnell have been playing together for the past few months. They are currently looking for a drummer and guitarist to complete the lineup. Drew McConnell talked with BBC 6 Music recently about The La’s plans.
The plan is to have a the lineup complete to play the Tramlines Festival, which takes place in Sheffield from July 24-26. McConnell talked about the new La’s album, he stated,
“At the end of that tour we’re going to go in and record the second record, which is all written already…We just need to find a drummer and a guitar player that can nail it down the same way I have.”
McConnell also mentioned how the two ended up playing togther,
“He saw me playing double bass and asked me if he could have a jam with me. The next day he came round to my house. A month later he’s still there… As a musician I feel really honoured. I must have done something good in a past life.”
The debut album from The La’s was released back in 1990. That is a sizable lag time between the first and second album. My question is, why are they releasing an album under the name The La’s? It has been such a long time, and none of the former band members, besides Lee Mavers, are still part of the band. Why not just recognize that it is an entirely different band and go from there?
What do you think? Did you like The La’s when they were around? Are you looking forward to a new album? Do you agree that they should go with a different name?

I have always loved the La's and plan to see them next month in NYC. Fantastic. (When was this piece written, btw? I don't see a date.)
