The Dutchess and the Duke: BeatCrave Fav

I love the blues. It is my cup of tea, and so are Kimberly Morrison and Jesse Lortz from The Dutchess and the Duke. Both Morrison and Lortz have joined and re-joined a number of unsuccessful bands, but it wasn’t until 2002 that the two started making music together. In 2007, the duo debuted their first single “Reservoir Park,” a song that sounds like early Bob Dylan and soulful. Both Morrison and Lortz make me feel like 60s soul venturing through a live concert of some of the best blues singers of all time including Scrapper Blackwell. Their clapping and co-ed harmonies accompanied by an acoustic-blues guitar make the Seattle-based band unlike many indie bands today.
She’s the Dutchess, he’s the Duke, is the first and only album by Morrison and Lortz: 10 folk songs, some are “dark confessions,” but all beautifully crafted with heartfelt lyrics and brassy tambourines. Honestly, this is a match made in heaven and I hope to see great things. Check The Dutchess and the Duke out in our BeatCrave Fav series below!
