With their new album, The Eternal, hitting stores today, indie-rockers Sonic Youth are set to play a free show tonight in New York City. The band will play at the Apple store in Soho at 9pm, with doors opening at 7.30pm.

Across the country in Los Angeles, the Origami Vinyl record store in Echo Park is heralding the band’s 16th album release today with a concert, party and renaming the store, for today only, ‘Sonic Youth’s House of Shifting Plates and Ridiculous Juice,’ a name dubbed by the band itself.

The store’s wall of featured albums will display selections hand-picked by the band, plus all sorts of Sonic Youth music. The band has also asked their friends Pocahaunted and Shiloe to play sets at the store. The whole, Sonic Youth shebang kicks-off at 5.30pm.

The complete new Sonic Youth album, out now via Matador Records, is streaming through June 15 at sonicyouth.com.
