The Asteroids Galaxy Tour: BeatCrave Fav

I have a sick obsession with the sixties, seventies, and eighties. These three decades of breakthrough music left the good ol’ days of Pat Boone behind and introduced new acts that came on the scene with a style of sound that we know now as rhythm and blues, Motown, garage punk, bubble gum pop, and all others. Somehow our pick of the day, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, is teeming to the brim with original material known to seamlessly cross generational lines yet remain fresh and modern.

Watching a music video of theirs, and we are onslaught with multiple styles we normally wouldn’t think would fit together – components of soul with Blondie -like visuals underneath a transcendent layer of disco psychadelics. Never to go by aesthetics alone, it was their single “Around the Bend” that shot them to pseudo-universality – which apparently was personally selected by Steve Jobs, the chairman of Apple himself, for use in an iPod Touch commercial (no fooling, that’s got to do wonders for one’s ego). Having recently released a debut album entitled Fruit, the Denmark-based outfit will be touring Europe this summer with reigning pop princess Katy Perry.

We really dig that The Asteroids Galaxy Tour refuses to be limited to one sound, and that they’ve instead chosen to spread their oats as it were to form a super-hybrid pop-alt genre. They behold an innovative style just as inspiring as the musical acts they have been influenced by.
