Cat Power To Direct Short (Very Short) Film

Cat Power drops the microphone for a director’s chair with the upcoming short film she directed for 42 Below Vodka’s OneDreamRush promotion. So if you’ve ever wondered what’s going on inside the mind of Cat Power, now’s your chance.

“OneDreamRush” is a series of 42 films by 42 different directors, each lasting 42 seconds and based on a dream the directors’ had.

It’s a high concept move for the Vodka maker, but an interesting endeavor, somewhat reminiscent of The Hire, the BMW film series of eight short films produced for the web in 2002. BMW put together a talented line-up of filmmakers who directed actor Clive Owen behind the wheel of a slick BMW caught up in all sorts of action-packed hi-jinks.

The “OneDreamRush” cinema project is just getting going, but they have assembled an impressive list of talented folks to direct the 42 shorts. There are directors like Mike Figgis, David Lynch, Gaspar Noe and Abel Ferrara on board and non-filmmakers joining Cat Power such as Sean Lennon, Asia Argento and James Franco.

Who knows, maybe this is the beginning of a new, cinematic direction for Chan ‘Cat Power’ Marshall. But for now she’ll concentrate on playing music this summer with a bunch of dates opening for the Pretenders. Now Chrissie Hynde, they should call her to direct one of the shorts!
