Peter Gabriel Set To Play WOMAD

Taking a break from revolutionizing digital distribution, WOMAD co-founder Peter Gabriel has announced he will perform a one-off show especially for WOMAD UK.
The July 25th performance will be Gabriel’s only show in Europe this year; all profits from the day will go to human rights charity Witness.
“I had no plans to play in the UK,” said Gabriel in a statement, “but when festival director, Chris Smith, heard I was looking for a suitable event, he generously offered the Saturday at WOMAD. We are trying to raise £100,000 for Witness.
“I’m delighted that my only show in Europe this year will be for a cause so close to my heart.”
The 27th annual world music festival features a great line-up of around 100 artists from 40 countries performing over the festival weekend. Bands like Cimarron, Radiokijada, Mad Professor, Mariem Hassan, The Sweet Vandals, Creole Choir Of Cuba, Rachel Unthank and The Winterset will join Gabriel.
The Grammy award-winning Gabriel recently completed a tour of South America and Mexico.
The Witness organization was set up in 1992 by Gabriel to establish and promote the use of video in courts, in front of commissions and as a tool to raise awareness in the fight against human rights violations in countries around the globe.
The WOMAD festival near Malmesbury runs from July 24 to 27. WOMAD is aimed at the whole family, and allows all children aged 13 years and under in for free.

Peter Gabriel has done a lot to change digital music and to help those in need.
In my view, we are only at the tip of the iceburg as to what can be done to give artsit the ability to easliy sell their music and to also have their fans sell it for them. I also do not think that helping those in need and selling an artistic creation are seperate actvitievs. I think that an artisst if they choose should have the option of giving a portion of thier revenue to a non profit orginaztion of their choice.
I m a musican as well as a technologist, and I have built a system that does this above. The site can be used today, and it is open source so artist and labels can use what extened and customize what I have built.
My first album will be relased on itunes on July 13th.

[...] genesis (bad pun, had to be done) of the Scratch My Back project was during the Womad Festival when Gabriel and a string section performed Paul Simon’s “The Boy In The Bubble.” [...]
