You know who The Dollyrots are; you just probably haven’t realized it. Their single “Because I’m Awesome”, featured on television shows and ads for Kohl’s department stores, has a little more to offer than “You! Yeah, you on the couch! You’re awesome! Buy my stuff!” In this case it goes without saying that music’s subliminal abilities are appreciated, thanks to The Dollyrots having efficiently burrowed  into our mental playlist. The Florida-based punk rock band is as close-knit in their history as their are onstage; lead vocalist Kelly Odgens and guitarist Luis Cabezas have been friends since middle school, and the band itself was formed during their college years.

The band as they are known as today seems to be on a mission simply to have fun and not take themselves too seriously. While not completely sticky sweet and bubble-gum-alicious, they refreshingly lack in supposed-to-be heart-wrenching emo themes, allowing their bright-shininess to appeal to the tween generation as much as the Y generation. Energetic, to the point, and busting out an interestingly adorable cover of seventies’ folk singer Melanie’s “Brand New Key,” The Dollyrots are our BeatCrave Fav for the day.     They have been very much a Los Angeles based band since 2003, though formed in FL during college

    The Dollyrots are the most awesome band EVER! The totally rocked at Warped tour in 2006 and 2007. (they played last year, but they didn't come anywhere near my area.)
